Other findings about omega-3 fatty acids:

  • Researchers report that a lower ratio of the omega-3 fatty acid EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) to the omega-6 fatty acid AA (arachidonic acid) predicts greater severity of symptoms in depressed patients.

  • One study of 18 patients who had attempted suicide found that higher blood levels of the omega-3 fatty acid EPA correlated with a lower risk (as assessed by psychological tests) of future suicide attempts.
